Programming Display in Gym
Programming can be displayed in your gym on a screen at the front of class to save writing the details onto a whiteboard each day. As the text is white on a black background it's also higher contrast so easier to see from a distance. Here's how to set it up:
TV/monitor and technology options
Firstly you're going to want to work out how to get the programming onto a screen. You can use a TV or monitor but TVs are generally cheaper as the size increases and realistically you're going to want a decent size screen so those at the back of class can see it clearly.
Our gym pages work as a website so it'll work well for any sized screen and any orientation. You can also increase/decrease text size to suit (although it'll try and optimise it and fit it all on one screen when it first loads). There are a few options on how to display it:
- Use a Smart TV with built in web browser. If your TV is old we recommend testing this first as typically the web browsers built in are quite basic and may not be able to handle some of our modern technology. You also want to work out how you're going to control the mouse pointer - typically that can be hard with some TV remotes
- Plug a simple computer in. This has the advantage you can plug in a mouse and keyboard at the same time which makes entering scores and clicking through to different days easy. Mini-PCs are the way to go here - they're really cheap at $200/£150 and only 6"/15cm square so can be often mounted behind the tv out of view. As you're just diplaying a basic web page you don't need anything more than the more basic of specs for the computer.
- Cast the webpage form a computer situated elsewhere. Chromecast is the most popular approach here but there's also options like Apple's AirPlay depending on what device you have. Just bear in mind if you're casting from a small device (eg phone) to a big screen it will be limited in how good it can look. We recommend using a tablet as a minimum with a laptop being more ideal. You'll also need decent wifi and a strong signal at both the TV location and the laptop location for this to work.
Create Gym User
If you login as yourself on a screen that's accessible by your members, then they could click through to your dashboard and see all your financial/customer information. Therefore we recommend creating a gym user which will allow display of the screens in your gym but doesn't allow a click through to your account. To do this:
- Go to Settings -> Staff -> Add Staff Member -> click 'gym' and add details
- This email does not need to be an active email account. It can be set up as gym@'yourgymname'.com
Links for public screen
You can now grab the links from Settings -> Links & Codes to set up the following options:
- Gymboard link - This link can be used to display the programming for the day, as well as allowing customers to record their performance data. It's designed to be used on a public computer within the exercise area.
- Self sign-in link - The link below is a quick way for customers to mark their attendance in class on arrival. It is typically used on a tablet or computer in the reception area.
